Key Stage 2
CHALLENGE BOOKS

akarsh and tiger.PNG

There are so many brilliant modern books on the market for children, but for this list, as we are focussing on challenge, you will notice that most of these books  were written a long time ago. All of them are at least 20 years old and many of them are over a hundred years old. They are all beautifully written by highly respected authors and have stood the test of time.

We have chosen 10 books for each year group, but this is just a guide- you don’t  have to stick to your year group list.

If you are preparing for 11 plus exams,  the very best preparation that you can do is to read the books on these lists!

A top independent or grammar school is far more likely to test your comprehension on an older book like Peter Pan, than they are on A Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Reading these classic novels will improve your comprehension, vocabulary and creative writing skills, and so much more.

Some of the language is challenging, however, all of them are worth persevering with as they are books that will change the way that you view the world and will stay with you forever.
